What is Health Care Options?
Health Care Options provides health care services through established networks of organized systems of care, which emphasize primary and preventive care.
Health Care Options is a branch within the Department of Health Care Services whose role it is to assure access to health care through an enrollment broker Contractor. The enrollment contractor provides information to Medi-Cal recipients about managed care plans. This allows them to make informed choices about their Medi-Cal benefits. The plans may include medical care services as well as dental care services.
Medical care services are managed by the Managed Care Operations Division (MCOD) whose role is to provide high quality, accessible, and cost-effective health care through managed care delivery systems. Managed care plans improve health care access and assure quality of care. Providers who wish to provide services to managed care enrollees must take part in the plan’s provider network.
Dental care services are managed by the Medi-Cal Dental Services whose role is to manage the Medi-Cal Dental Program as well as other departmental dental programs. These programs can be governed through the fee-for-service fiscal intermediary and/or through dental managed care contracts. The Dental Managed Care Program provides a comprehensive approach to the provision of dental health care. The program combines clinical services and administrative procedures to provide timely access to primary care and other necessary services in a cost effective manner.
